Press statement on landslide victims in Muzzafarabad and the district of Bagh: Rapporteur for Kashmir deeply regrets loss of lives in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne MEP, Rapporteur of the European Parliament for Kashmir, said:

“We learnt this morning of the landslide disaster in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, within the earthquake zone of October 2005, in which 35 people have been killed in Muzzafarabad and 9 in the district of Bagh.”

“This dreadful tragedy underlines the continuing struggle for survival for the victims of the earthquake and their families.

She continued: “I am confident that the European Commission in Islamabad as well as my fellow parliamentarians here in Brussels will continue to do all they can to support these new victims and their families as well as those still suffering from the earthquake”.
Baroness Nicholson’s draft report on AJK went in front of Parliament this morning and was passed, as amended, by a majority of 60 to 1.
