Help For Earthquake Survivors In Iran
The earthquake that struck Bam , Iran , on the 26 th of December 2003 , took the lives of over 40,000 people. Countless more were injured, and their livelihoods destroyed as their habitat was reduced to rubble. Bam’s citadel – a World Heritage Site and the oldest mud brick building in the world at 2,000 years old – was destroyed.
Emma was the first MEP to visit Bam following the disaster, where she oversaw the work of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation who played an important part in the relief effort. Emma has pledged to help with the enormous task of rebuilding Bam and the lives of its inhabitants. Click here to see a diary of Emma’s visit to Bam.
